This is it - the last 24 hours with the cast!! I can't believe that tomorrow is the big day.
This weekend has been fun. Thursday night, after Miles left, we rang in the New Year with a pizza supper and a viewing of Narnia. We counted down to 9, drank some sparkling pear juice and wrote our family resolutions in our family journal. We decided Sophie would want to work on her walking and drinking from a big-girl cup. Jack wanted a new house with "bigger bedrooms" while Susan advocated for more outside time for all and for our family to continue to be courageous and brave. I would like to start a family garden and purchase some family bikes with a seat or "chariot" for The B. I think these are doable for the year!
We continued our New Year's celebration with a late-afternoon matinee of "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakual" on Friday. What fun! Sophie was enthralled - she especially loves funnies where someone falls or gets hit on the head. "Alvin" was full of those! During the musical numbers, she and Jack danced in their seats. Overall, a good time was had by all!
Saturday, Sophie and Jack went to Chris' house for the morning while I ran my first 10K (!!). Poor Sophie, Jack, Chris and Charlotte - he had to pick them up at 6:45 so that I could make the start time. Needless to say, there was a sleepy Sophie at the Riverwalk address! I believe that she cuddled with Charlotte most of her time there. That afternoon, she was a bit cranky but we gave lots of cuddles and that seemed to assuage the crankiness. Yesterday, we spent the day at home and had lots of floor play and wallowing in the pillows. Today, we slept late and have, again, wallowed together. Sophie seems to prefer cuddling on these cold days - and I can't say I blame her!
Although her sleeping is a bit better, Sophie has taken to throwing full-out temper tantrums when she is bored or mad or just wants a change of scenery. Instead of speaking bat in cute little high-pitched squeals, she has turned to a caterwauling kitten sound that is a cross between a squawk and a scream. She makes the greatest "goat face" when she squawks and stiffens her body out - the better able to slide to the floor from whatever she happens to be sitting on. It's quite funny - and so age appropriate!
Tomorrow, our big appointment is at 9 a.m. We will get the casts off (yay!) and find out what's in store for recovery. Dr. Piehl should give us lots of information about what this will entail, when we can expect to resume PT, when she can begin weight-bearing, etc. I will update the blog tomorrow afternoon with the first part of the next leg of our journey!
Until then, much love.
